“I don’t know” — why is that such a scary thing to say?

We see politicians give elaborate word plays around questions they don’t understand. We see similar artistry when we debate new ideas, new approaches, or new policies at work.

Posturing. Defensiveness. Deceit.

Why not just say “I don’t know”, and then have an open discussion about the gaps in your understanding? 9 times of 10 the other party doesn’t have all the answers either.

Perhaps everyone is suffering from a little Imposter Syndrome. Perhaps we’re all afraid of being ‘found out’.

But all it takes is for one honest person to humbly admit their own limitations and all of sudden, everyone’s walls break down

And everyone comes together.
