You wait

You wait until you’re accepted into a program
You wait until you’ve finished your education
You wait until you’ve finished your portfolio
You wait until you’re hired

And you think

Then I can be a programmer

You think, “If only a company will give me a chance… THEN I‘ve made it’”

What’s Wrong With That?

Everything!

Because if you wait to be a programmer then there’s a good chance you’ll never be one 😓

While “Years of Experience” does not equal “Skill Level”, it is a useful proxy for recruiters when they receive hundreds of applicants for entry-level roles. And in that sea of applicants, they will filter by those with the most “Years of Experience” every… single… time.

Why? Because companies are not charities!

They don’t want to “take a chance” on anyone
They don’t care who “needs” a job the most
They don’t want to train someone up

They have deadlines
And they have to make money
