Rest in order to Succeed

Professional sports teams spend most of they year preparing for execution.

They have practices days

Here they try new plays. They learn new skills, try new formations, and are allowed to fail as they innovate and try new things.

Then when game day hits, it’s all about execution, focus, drive, and determination.

Practice days can also be intense (weight training, conditioning, etc.), but the focus is not on winning, it’s on growth and learning.

Treating every day like a game day would be detrimental to their ability to execute as their muscles wouldn’t get the recovery time needed to rebuild and strengthen.

But oftentimes at work, we try to treat every day like “game day”.

You, similarly, need practice days. Safe days. You need your own off-season (aka PTO) to recuperate.

You aren’t “weak” for needing it.

You’re smart.
