Joy in the Means

We rob ourselves of happiness when we wait on the promise of some unknown future day.

For example:

  • I will finally be happy once I get promoted
  • I will finally be happy once I’m in a committed relationship
  • I will finally be happy once I retire
  • I will finally be happy once I can afford that new toy

Oftentimes, when those days do come, we find the victory hollow. We find ourselves still unsatisfied. Sometimes those days never come at all.

Life and struggle isn’t a means to an end — where any amount of unnecessary suffering is worth it now because it will pay off at some future day.

Life is short — don’t wait until the end to find joy. Find it in the means.

Find it every day.
