Being a new hire is an intimidating place to be because THIS TRAIN IS MOVING!

So many teams!
So many people!
So many projects!

All moving at breakneck speeds in their OWN direction against their OWN goals using their OWN jargon. And you’re expected to jump right in!

And all this will make you wonder,

“Can I pick it all up quick enough?”

During my 10+ years as a Software Engineer I’ve developed digital solutions for over 14 companies ranging from small startups to Fortune 200 companies. While each company has their own tech stack and internal processes, I’ve found these 3 things to be the MOST important to get up to speed quickly

1. Setup Regular 1:1 Meetings With Leadership

Any new hire faces a weight of expectations

Are you as good as you said you were in the interview?
Can you solve the problems we hired you to solve?
etc.

And sometimes it’s less about if you can do the work and more about the politics how you do the work.
